Computer crafts for the entire family! Designing personalized bookmarkers is fun with Microsoft Word. For this recipe you need some short crafts, jokes or photos.

Encourage your family to read by helping them create their own bookmarkers. Microsoft Office is a set of very flexible and easy software programs to learn. This tutorial uses MS Word.

Ingredients

ClipArt, Photos, Jokes, phrases, or short recipes that will fit on the bookmarker.

  1. Open Microsoft Word, click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, Microsoft Office, Word
  2. Change the margins, click on FILE, Page Set up, Margins, Top = .3, Left = .5, Bottom = .3, Right = .5
  3. Change the orientations of the paper, click on Landscape (in the middle of the page), OK
  4. Insert Table by clicking on TABLE, Insert, Table, Table, Columns = 14, Rows = 3, OK
  5. Select the table, Click on EDIT, Select all, click on TABLE, Table Properties, Center Table
  6. Click on the Row tab, click in the small box in front of "Specify Height" (see below) At least, click on Next Row (watch the row number) Row Height

  7. Click on the Column tab, Preferred Width (see below) Measure in Inches, click on Next Column (watch the column number), OK Column Width

    • 3 - 2.00
    • 4 - .13
    • 5 - .13
    • 6 - 2.00
    • 7 - .13
    • 8 - .13
    • 9 - 2.00
    • 10 - .13
    • 11 - .13
    • 12 - 2.00
    • 13 - .13
    • 14 - .13
  8. Click in column 3, row 2 (7 inches high) copy the wording from your document
  9. Past the wording into the columns
  10. Continue coping and pasting until columns 3, 6, 9 and 12 are filled
  11. Click in front of each title and hit ENTER to put in a blank line (this will make cutting easier)
  12. Format your fonts, text and text color, insert pictures and other desired changes, (text and pictures should fill up most of the bookmarker)
  13. Turn off boarders
  14. Click on EDIT, Select all, Click on FORMAT, Boarders and Shading, Click on the Boarders tab, click on None, OK
  15. Turn on specific boarders for columns (for cutting lines)
  16. Click and highlight columns 4 and 5, click on FORMAT, Boarders and Shading, click on the Boarders tab, click on Apply to: change to Cell, (lower right corner), click on a center line directly above. OK
  17. Do the same for columns 7 and 8, and 10 and 11
  18. Cut apart and punch a hole at the bottom for a tassel
