See Your Writing in Print!

Have you ever wanted to see your writing in print? Don't have a lot of cash to pay for a publication? With this booklet craft, you can create you own publication.

Before starting this project, decide on a theme for your story. (A day with your children, A day at the Zoo or anything else) The story will be a total of eight pages long, including pictures and text. Using 8 ½ X 11 inch paper, folded in half, and then in half again. The pages will be ¼ of a sheet of regular printer paper.

  • Open Publisher, Click on Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Publisher.
  • Click on "Publication for Print".
  • Click on "Greeting Cards".
  • Choose any card (you will be changing most of the formatting and inserting pictures).
  • Click on Cancel "Cancel Personal Information".
  • On the first page (front cover) INSERT a small picture, then type your "Booklet Title".
  • Change the font to "Rage Italic".
  • Change the font size to "20," choose a color for your font
  • Center text.
  • Save you booklet as "Booklet".
  • Click on page 2.
  • INSERT a picture, INSERT a text box, type text and format to fit the page.
  • Click on page 3.
  • INSERT a picture, INSERT a text box, type text and format to fit the page.
  • Save your booklet.
  • Click on page 4 (this will be the back cover).
  • Change the text to "Created especially for you" (or something appropriate for your story) Hit ENTER.
  • By: = "Your Name".
  • Save your booklet.
  • Insert a new page.
  • Click on, INSERT, Page, Number of pages = 4.
  • Click on, After right page, Click on, Create a blank page, OK.
  • Click on page 5.
  • INSERT a picture, INSERT a text box, type text and format to fit the page.
  • Repeat the previous step for pages 6 through 8.
  • Save your booklet.
  • Click on "PRINT PREVIEW" to check your layout, make any necessary changes.
  • Print when finished.

Remember:

  • Pages one and four will be your cover pages.
  • Starting at the top left, your first paper will be numbered as pages:
  • 1 4 2 3.
  • Your second paper will be numbered as pages:
  • 5 8 6 7.
  • After papers are printed, you will fold them in half, than half again.
  • Insert the folded paper 2 into the folded paper 1, put two staples in the center fold of the booklet to hold them together.

I LOVE this article! Thanks so much! I actually have several little things I've been wanting to do and had been encouraged to just make them up as "EBooks" but dislike the impersonal touch an EBook has. This is the perfect format and I can make them quick and easy! Thank YOU!!

These booklets are easy enough that my 11 year old grandaughter has been making them for several years. She and her best friend write little stories together.

I have also created a menu booklet for Christmas with all of the reciepes and clip art.

I also spend a day with the grandchildren doing all kinds of things. The booklet documented what we did together and they loved it.
