Wow! Google's Online Spreadsheets

© Sharon Koss

Google's Spreadsheet Lab is similar to working with Microsoft Excel and Lotus Spreadsheets. The best part about Google's Spreadsheets is that it's free!

This new feature is an online spreadsheet program which means you save your work on Google's computers, and you can access and edit your work from anywhere in the world. All you need is an internet connection and a little knowledge of spreadsheets.

Google has incorporated integrated features and has a GUI design, and it's very user friendly. All of the basic formatting items are there but easier to use. Files can be exported as: .cvs, .html, .ods, .pdf, or .xls. There are seven fonts you can choose from: Arial, Courier New, Georgia, Times New Roman, Trebuchet and Verdana.

A terrific new feature, allows you to assign specific people who can edit, or view only, your worksheet. There is also a box that allows anyone to view your work. To allow others to edit, click on "Show Sharing Options" and click inside of "Invite people to Edit." Type their email addresses, or open your Contacts folder, open each contact individually, then copy their email address. Click inside of the "Invite people to Edit" box, click on EDIT, on the Menubar, then click Paste. After entering the addresses, click on Invite people.
