OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 seems to be one of the best new treasures of the computer software world. The software consists of a suite of programs that are multiplatform, which include word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentations, and diagrams. OpenOffice.org is an open-source project and is sponsored by Sun Microsystems. "Open Source" means anyone can add their ideas to the "project." In this way the program will evolve and become better and better.
It is considered an open-source product and is a project itself. Open source is software that can be shared freely with others. The software, has been translated into 27 different languages and more are being converted every day. OpenOffice.org works similar to Microsoft and Corel with a (GUI) graphical user interface.
The word processing program called OOo Writer, will read Microsoft Word documents, plus they can be edited. Another great feature is that OOo Writer exports documents into the PDF format. Now you have another option to let others modify your documents or not to modify.
OpenOffice.org does not have all the features that Word or Word Perfect has, but who knows in the future, it may replace Word.
