If you become a hearing aid wearer, go digital! Digital hearing aids can be programmed with a computer for your individual needs and lifestyle. After the audiologist tests your hearing they will record the results on paper. They will make a mold of your ear, then you then choose your digital hearing aids. Usually, they will fit you with two hearing aids for balance. About two weeks later you will go back to see the audiologist and get your new hearing aids.
At the first appointment when you put them in for the first time, you will be amazed at all the noises you have been missing. While in the audiologist office, they will attach a wire to each hearing aid, while you are wearing them. Then the fun starts. The hearing aids will be programmed according to your hearing test results. This only takes a few minutes and there is no pain.
During the first two weeks of wearing, you will be getting used to having something in your ears, and hearing noises you did not know were there. This is an adjustment period.
The second appointment, the aids will be tweaked according to your work, lifestyle and other interests. For example, if you work in a noisy environment, the hearing aids can be programmed to automatically adjust themselves and lower the volume several decibels. Just like the thermostat in your home regulating the heat to keep a constant temperature.
