Many things around you in your everyday life have computer chips in them. We truly are living in the "Smart House" when we compare our standard of living to the way we were 100 years ago.
The home of tomorrow is already here. The "Smart Home" uses computerized devices to make our lives easier. Where there are computers, there is software. Software programs can control coffee makers, microwaves, alarm clocks, telephones, the thermostat for your furnace and air conditioning and so much more.
Many computerized devices can be programmed to turn on and off at specific times plus still work manually for power outages. Remote controlled devices are becoming more important to our daily living. We never think of getting up off the couch to change the television station.
Infra red technology is used in remote controls, and can control almost anything in your home. We already know about the television, stereo and garage doors, but what about the washing machine, dryers, lighting, doors, and the security system? Who knows, maybe the walls will be able to move and transform a room from being closed up to a more open area.
This is an area of computer software that will expand as time goes on and maybe colleges will develop courses and certifications. Instead of studying networking, your degree could be "Home Networking."
