VoIP

VoIP originated in 1995 when an Israeli computer guru invented the computer to computer hook up, all that was needed was a phone line, a modem, a sound card, speakers and a microphone. The sound quality was not the best at that time, but has now been greatly improved. Soon, Internet Phone Software programs were created.

To use VoIP, the caller talks into the microphone and the software converts the voice from analog to digital, then sends the digitized voice to the destination. VoIP works the same way as email. Each message is broken down into many individual packets. Each packet is numbered and contains the date, destination and place of origin, along with other information. The packets travel across the Internet separately, taking different roads and join up at the destination, where they are re-assembled.

In 1998 came the PC to phone, which still need a computer, then the phone to phone connection. You can purchase a PC phone and anyone can have VoIP. VoIP is easier now because of broadband. There is a smoother connection with broadband.
